BISMILLAH-IR-RAHMAN-IR-RAHIM

The verse ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ is the first verse of each chapter of the Holy Quran, except for the Surah At-Tawbah (Baraat) which is not an independent chapter but a continuation of the chapter of An-Anfaal.

According to a Hadith reported by Ibn Abbas on this subject, whenever a new chapter was revealed, it started with ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’, the first verse. Without this verse, Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) would have never known that a new chapter was being revealed to him. (Abu Daoud)

This Hadith proves that:-

The verse ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ is a part of the Holy Quran and it is not separate. The same is when we read the Tilawat-é-Quran, we must begin with “Aouzou billahi minash Shaytan ir-rajim, Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim in a loud tone. Without it, Telawat-é-Quran becomes null and void.  Some Muslims believe that ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ forms part only for the Surah Al-Fatiha, but not for other chapters. Luckily, some Hadiths refuted this argument in which Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that, ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ is definitely a part of each Surah of the Holy Quran. (Bukhari & Dar Qutni)

Being given that ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ is a part of all chapters of the Holy Quran; hence, Allah makes me understand it more clearly according to a question addressed to me.

When an Imam is leading the prayers after reciting the Ta’uz and the Surah Al-Fatiha, it is highly recommended to recite, ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ again in a loud voice, then the next Surah starts. But if it happens that the Imam has forgotten to start the next chosen Surah with ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ or he said it in a very low voice, it is not a sin but it is recommended under divine instruction that the Imam has to read ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ in a loud tone.

Allah advises us to read this short sentence (Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim) because it is filled with virtues and benefits.

Hazrat Ali (ra) said that ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ is the key of the Holy Quran; that is, the opening verse of all Suwar, except for Surah At-Tawbah, and also is the key of all religious and mundane work. Without it, the work is incomplete with no blessings and favours of Allah.

For example: If an individual performs his Wuzu (ablution) starting with ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ this Wuzu is incomplete (Hadith Abu Daoud). And the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “One who wishes to have his work completed and filled with success, he should start with ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’. The same formula is applied before eating, drinking, sleeping and even having sexual intercourse, and also before taking his pills, for certainly Allah will give him cure and keeps him in good health.

Therefore, if a Muslim utters the sentence ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ after each step taken in his daily life, definitely he will be bestowed with the blessings and special favours of Allah and he will always achieve great triumphs.

Allah taught me also of how to use ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ and in which circumstances when we shall benefit Allah’s blessings and favours.

If in a home, the members of the family are not in good terms, then they have to recite fervently ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ 786 times between the Sunnah and Farz of the Fajr prayers at least for eleven days consecutively. This will bring favour, unity and blessings of Allah also.

If someone does not feel well, he suffers from severe pain, he should read ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ 100 times for 3 days and he (blows over) where it pains.

Before going to bed, read 21 times ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ and blow on and around him or her; Insha’Allah, that person will be protected from the pangs of Satan and the house shall be safe from theft, fire or any evil spirit.

If someone finds himself in extreme difficulties, where he cannot find any solution to solve his problems, in this situation he can read 12,000 times ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ and after each 1000 times, he reads 2 Raka’at (cycles) of “Salaat-é-Haajat”.

What is “Salaat-é-Haajat”?

A special prayer composed of 2 Raka’at. In the first Rakah, after reading the Surah Al-Fatiha, read the Surah Al- Ikhlaas 3 times and after Salaam read 11 times the Darood Shareef and supplicate Allah with Duahs, without forgetting to read ‘Laa Ilahaa Illallahoul Halimoul Kareem...’ (Duah-é-Hajjat); continue this Salaat for 7 days. Insha’Allah Allah will grant him victory of righteousness over evil and his efforts will be crowned with success. The most unexpected will occur.

If a person suffers from severe headache, he reads ‘Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim’ 11 times and pray fervently, with a sincere heart to Allah and read the duah ‘Shifaa’ (healing) while rubbing his forehead – Insha’Allah he will let out a sign of relief.
